    And another thing, in my opinion he does not have a "baton" in his hands, but a cross, he is looking at a cross, if you look well above is hand there is a sugestion of the body of christ nail to the cross, it has been carved in that way because of the curve of the medal...

      Thank you for that idea, Peixoto. It seems that it could be that. I keep this idea in mind until I have a confirmation by another similar medal.

        My guess is that by one side it represents Saint Bernard of Claraval, and on the other the "lacatio" of Saint Bernard? It seems that the saint is at is knees in front of the virgin mary and baby jesus and is being feed by the breast of the holy virgin.
